Google+ Is Closing But Let's Stay Together

Hi, Everyone!

All of Google+ APIs (application programming interfaces) and integrations will permanently close down on March 7, 2019 but the process started on Monday, January 28, 2019.  The API and integration closure will cease the function of +1 and share buttons along with web page and mobile app integrations.  Complete closure of the consumer version of Google+ is still currently scheduled for April 2019.

Because of the Google+ shutdown, several things have already taken place:

  • Kenny Conklin has deleted his SciFiantasy Google+ community and will focus his efforts on his Hobby Link International umbrella of sites (Hobby Link International, Model Builder International, Modelerstube, and Hobby Link International Shop) which can all be accessed from https://scifiantasy.com/activity/.
  • Boyd Compton is currently in the planning stages of shutting down his The Model Shop Google+ community as well as his SciFiModelAction forum site.  For now, go to the forum site at http://scifimodelaction.com/sfmaforum/index.php and participate there until his new site goes online.
  • The Amazing Scale Modelers Google+ community is making the transition to the MeWe social media platform.  To join them, open an account at MeWe.com.  Then "Friend" Jack Holczer or James Frost and they will accept and invite you to the ASM MeWe community.
  • Google+ member "Ozzy o" set up a MeWe community for everyone to stay in contact with each other.  Head on over to https://mewe.com/join/scalemodelerssecret.
  •  Google+ member "GalaxyStranger01" has ambitious plans to start a modelers' resource site from the ground up.  If anyone wants to stay in touch to be notified (and to receive a possible newsletter series), send an email to galaxystranger01@gmail.com with "Modeling Hub" in the subject.

As for myself, I'm going to continue supporting Boyd's various efforts and will be a part of GalaxyStranger01's plans.  I will also use this newly-created Google Blogger site (https://themodelstash.blogspot.com/) to post the type of modeling and general information that I've tended to share over the last few years.

While the demise of Google+ means that our beloved communities become fragmented, it shouldn't have to mean we disappear.  Please continue to support one another until more unified platforms become realized.

So let's go..."Out there.  Thataway!"

:)
