Hand-held USB-rechargeable Air Compressor / Airbrush Set

 Hi, Everyone!

I've been eyeing some hand-held, USB-rechargeable, air compressor / airbrush sets for a couple of years now and finally decided to get one to try out.  These devices have found uses in barber shops / beauty salons, spas, food preparation, crafting, scale modeling, and many other hobbies.  They are handy because they are portable and relatively quiet.

Early models featured rechargeable batteries that had capacities ranging from 700 to 950 mA.  This allowed the compressor to run for about 20 to 30 minutes.  More current models have higher-capacity batteries, allowing the compressor to get 45 minutes to an hour of usability.

The one I picked up has the following specifications...

Compressor:

  • 1200 mA rechargeable battery
  • USB-C interface
  • Input voltage of 5 volts at 2A
  • Remaining charge indicator
  • Low PSI (about 15 to 20 PSI) and High PSI (about 25 to 30 PSI) settings
  • Over heat detection with automatic shut off

Airbrush:

  • Gravity feed, dual action airbrush
  • 0.4 mm needle with matching tip
  • Removable internals for easy cleaning
  • Removable handle and adjustable needle stop
  • Removable crown and air caps
  • Three different cups - one metal cup with lid and two different sized, higher volume plastic bottles

Accessory:

  • USB-A to USB-C charging cable

I ran a quick test using thinned acrylic craft paint on a bare white styrene model kit part.  Once I got the viscosity of the paint to where it needed to be, I was able to lay smooth layers down onto the plastic with good results.

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.  This generic, no-name-brand, made in China set costs under $40.00 U.S.D. which is a decent deal.  Its quietness and portability allows one to use it almost anywhere.  And while the airbrush itself won't replace more expensive airbrushes, it does the job when quick work might be needed.

  1. Great review. I'd be interested on how it does for a complete build.
